C.J. Hunter

C.J. Hunter IV,  since 1990, has served as the Director of Music of Trinity United Methodist Church, Maysville, Kentucky. The Chancel Choir
and Trinity Orchestra under his direction have both performed for the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

C.J. Hunter IV, has been serving United Methodist Churches since 1973 as a music director.  A retired Music Educator with a background of over 30 years teaching music theory classes along with conducting choral and orchestral ensembles. He is frequent adjudicator, clinician and consultant for both choral and orchestral activities.

A life member of the American Choral Directors Association has received the prestigious Barr Award for Distinguished Service to Choral Music.  Mr. Hunter was named as a University of Kentucky Teacher Who Made A Diference Award, The Maysville Community and Technical College Award for Distinguished Service to Education, The Mason County Board of Education Community Service Award and the Rotary Club Award for Community Service. He helped establish the Downing Performing Arts Academy in Maysville and
serves the Academy as Chairman of the Board of Directors.  He serves on numerous boards and foundations including the Asbury University Alumni
Board of Directors and past member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association Board of Directors.


Mr. Hunter conducted the Mason County Concert Choir and Orchestra on eight international concert tours including performances at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City on two tours, Notre Dame in Paris, Westminster Abbey in London, St. Mark’s in Venice, Chartres Cathedral and over 200 concerts performances in England, The Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Austria, Slovakia, Belgium and Canada.


 

The Concert Choir under his direction performed at Carnegie Hall, the United Nations, the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast, Kennedy Center for the Arts, the Kentucky General Assembly, St. Patrick’s Cathedral (New York City), U.S. Capitol, along with special television presentations for KET and the United Nations film productions. The Music program at Mason County under the direction of Mr. Hunter produced over 20 broadway style musical productions during his teaching career.


In addition to his role at Trinity Church, Mr. Hunter is the Executive Director of the Kentucky Gateway Museum Center in Maysville. C. J. Hunter is married to Nancy Donehoo Hunter, who is a Professor at Maysville Community and Technical College. He is active in farming, soil conservation, agricultural projects, an avid gardener, enjoys reading, and
historical preservation.
